Dog-ear: Standard flat-top picket with corners trimmed at an angle. The most common and most affordable cedar privacy fence style. Clean, classic look.

Board-on-board: Overlapping boards on alternating sides of the rail, so the fence looks finished from both sides. Uses ~20% more material but provides better privacy (no gaps) and looks the same from your neighbor's side.

Shadow box: Boards mounted on alternating sides with a gap between them. Creates a semi-private look with airflow — good for windy properties. Looks decorative from both sides.
Racked (contoured): The fence panels angle to follow the slope, keeping the top of the fence parallel to the ground. Looks more natural on gentle slopes. Best for rolling terrain where the grade change is gradual.

Stepped (stair-step): Each fence section stays perfectly level, creating a stair-step pattern down the slope. The gaps at the bottom of each step can be filled or left open. Best for moderate to steep slopes, and required by some HOAs.
Concrete set: Posts are placed in a hole and surrounded by concrete. This is the strongest method and our standard for most installations. The concrete cures overnight and creates a permanent, rigid anchor.

Driven posts: Metal posts are hammered directly into the ground without digging. Faster and cheaper, but only works in soft, rock-free soil. Not recommended for NM's rocky terrain in most areas.
